COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 18,1995 PSA#1327U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Contracts Management Division
(NCCM-KM, Research Triangle Park, NC 27711 66 -- SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE WITH ENERGY DISPERSIVE X-RAY
FLUORESCENCE DECTECTOR SYSTEM SOL D500251M1 DUE 060995 POC Kathy Moore,
Contract Specialist (919)541-3504, Janice White, Contracting Officer,
(919) 541-3504. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a
requirement for an Automated Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
equipped with an Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) Fluorescence Detector
System, that will collect and measure secondary electrons,
backscattered electrons and x-rays. This benchtop (or routine) SEM/EDX
will be used to rapidly screen and characterize large numbers of
particles collected on filters to assist in the selecting of samples
which will undergo subsequent comprehensive examination using an
existing research grade SEM/EDX. The SEM/EDX shall be equipped with a
motorized stage and be dedicated to performing unattended, automated
analysis of air pollution aerosol samples collected on Nucleopore
filters. The total system shall be controlled and operated with a
single PC computer and shall be fully integrated and use only one
mouse/keyboard for all functions. The system shall have two monitors,
one dedicated to the major control parameters and one dedicated to
image and EDX spectra display. In addition, the contractor shall
provide software programs that will enable the user to auto analyze
individual particles and categorize the particles as a function of
size, morphology and chemistry. The software programs shall be able to
provide images of individual particles and EDX spectra on a single
screen that can be retrieved and imported into word processing software
for report preparation. No special utilities shall be required for the
operation of the SEM/EDX. It is anticipated that solicitation
D500251M1 will be released on or around May 10, 1995, and that
proposals will be due thirty days later. It is anticipated that the
resulting contract will be firm, fixed-priced. Interested parties may
obtain a copy of the solicitation by written request. Telephone and FAX
requests will not be honored. Only one copy shall be issued to a
corporate entity, regardless of the number of requests from one or more
geographic locations. The SIC Code is 3826, with a size standard of 500
employees. THIS IS NOT A SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE. (0104) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0258 19950417\66-0002.SOL)
