Administrator A -- TOKAMAK PHYSICS EXPERIMENT (TPX) THOMSON SCATTERING
DIAGNOSTIC. Conceptual Design, Preliminary Design, Final Design,
Supporting Research and Development (R&D), Manufacture and
Installation/On-Site Test Support of the Tokamak Physics Experiment
(TPX) Thomson Scattering Diagnostic. TPX is currently under
consideration by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a possible next
step in the U.S. magnetic fusion research program. The Thomson
Scattering Diagnostic measures the electron velocity distribution
function from Doppler shifted photons scattered by the plasma electrons
from an incident high power short pulse laser beam. An imaging system
determines the spectral characteristics of the scattered light and
provides density and temperature information along the path of the
laser beam. The diagnostic provides an essential measurement of the
spatial profile of the electron temperature and density. The
measurement is a crucial indicator of plasma performance and is an
essential input to the kinetic plasma analyses. The estimated period of
performance for the design and R&D efforts is forty-two (42) months,
commencing on or about October 1, 1995. TPX First Plasma is currently
scheduled for July, 2001. To be considered for award, interested
parties must have experience in the following areas: Thomson Scattering
Diagnostics; fusion technology; engineering design, development and
integration; remote handling technology; and transitioning physics
requirements into designs and designs into hardware. Specific
requirements are set forth in RFP No. 95-081K. The anticipated release
date for the solicitation package is May, 1995. Subcontract award is
to take place on or about October 1, 1995, subject to the availability
of funds. This notice is not a solicitation of offers. Requests for a
copy of this solicitation should be submitted to Michael Karl,
Subcontract Administrator. Only written requests for the solicitation
will be honored and may be faxed to (609) 243-2021. Interested parties
are also advised that a TPX Project Reading Room has been established
at Room 226, New Guggenheim Building, B-Site, James Forrestal Campus,
Princeton University, U.S. Route 1 North, Plainsboro, NJ. The Reading
Room contains documents pertinent to the design and estimated cost of
all TPX component systems. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. Photocopying facilities are available. Please telephone Sallie
Citrolo at (609) 243-3379 for appointments. (0102) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0003 19950413\A-0003.SOL)
