Invitations to bid (IFBs) are being issued to the following offerors of technical proposals determined acceptable in Step One of the Two Step method of sealed bidding: General Electric Co., 2120 Diamond Blvd., Suite 100, Concord, CA 94520, 510/602-5995; Magnetek Electric Coil, 800 King Avenue, PO Box 388, Columbus, Oh 43216, 614/488-1151; and Westinghouse Electric Corp.; 2470 Eastand Way, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, 510/682-1500. The scope of work for the motor rewind requires the successful contractor to provide all labor, engineering, design, material and services necessary to rewind and uprate the power capability by approximately 50% of the four (4) existing drive motors of the UPWT. The motors are wound rotor induction type, currently rated 45,000 hp continuous with a one (1) hour capability of 54,000 hp. Both rotor and stator are to be rewound with a NEMA class F insulation system. The rotors and stators are to be rewound at the Contractor's facility. The approximate weight of each rotor is 69 tons; the approximate weight of each stator is 50 tons. The work also includes refurbishment of slip rings, bearings, tube oil system, shaft and bearing alignment, and balancing. The work will be performed both at the Contractor's facility and at NASA, Ames Research Center. The work is to be completed by 9/1/96. The estimated cost is between $5 to $10 million dollars.
