intends to negotiate with Printer Systems to continue on-site
maintenance to include labor and spare parts for (quantity 886) Model
5278CRT Comterm (3270-compatible expanded character set) Terminal and
(quantity 140) Model 5270 Comterm Remote Cluster Controllers. This
equipment was manufactured by Comterm, Inc. Point-Claire (Quebec)
specifically for the Library of Congress in 1983 to support online
bibliographic searching and input/updating of bibliographic information
in machine readable form. The systems were designed to support the ALA
extended Roman character set and nonroman languages. The Comterm 5278
consists of a Monochrome Display Station and Keytronics keyboard with
special key caps and has the capability of transmitting the expanded
character set through special key codes. The remote cluster controller
commands up to 32 devices when connected to the host computer that
supports BSC or SNA/SDLC protocols. The solicitation will be available
