COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 3,1995 PSA#1316Commander & Director, U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station,
ATTN: CEWES-CT-C, P.O. Box 631, Vicksburg, MS 39180-6199 A -- LARGE SCALE DOLOS PHYSICAL MODEL STUDY, OSU POC Sandy Staggs,
601-634-3698 The USAE Waterways Experiment Station (WES) proposes to
award a contract to Oregon State University for providing all necessary
personnel and equipment to furnish and operate the large wave tank
(LWT) and collect a high density, high quality data set on CORE-LOC and
CORE-LOC/dolos matrix hydrodynamic stability response and associated
hydrodynamics in a controlled laboratory environment. The contract
period will be six months. The goal of the project is to obtain a
comprehensive set of data, in a controlled environment at a large
scale, to be used to validate scaling parameters for CORE-LOC, and to
be used to develop design guidance for both new CORE-LOC structures and
repair of existing dolos armor layers using CORE-LOC. The only known
source capable of performing this work, within the United States, is
Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon where the LWT is located.
This unique LWT is operational and is available to perform large scale
hydraulic stability studies (irregular wave heights up to 1.5 meters,
and wave periods in excess of 10 seconds). This large scale is
required for validating scaling, investigating the effect of high
friction prototype concrete on porosity and stability. It will be used
as a basis for developing CORE-LOC construction and design guidance
under the scope of the research work performed at the Coastal
Engineering Research Center. In the event no other sources are found,
the U.S. Government intends to award a contract to Oregon State
University under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c)(1). Solicitation
documents are not available. Any inquires should be received within 15
days of this notice. See numbered Note 22. (0089) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0014 19950331\A-0014.SOL)
