COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 31,1995 PSA#1315National Park Service, 15 State Street, Boston MA 02109-3572 19 -- RECONSTRUCTION OF HISTORIC VESSEL ``FRIENDSHIP'' Sol
1443RP160095004. Due 051595. POC Kim Robinson, Procurement Assistant,
617/223-5033. The work of this project consists of the reconstruction
of the historic sailing vessel ``Friendship''. The construction
drawings for the reconstruction are based on the existing model of the
original ship. The reconstructed vessel will be 103' 9'' length on
deck, and displace approximately 330 long tons. Maximum beam will be
30' and depth will be 18'. It will have three square rigged masts and
will be of wood construction. While modern materials and methods will
be used, the historic accuracy of the visual appearance of the
reconstructed vessel is crucial. Accordingly, great care will be
required to hide all anachronistic intrusions from public view. The
hull will be of cold-molded wood construction. The outer lamination
will have the appearance of an historic planked vessel. Additionally,
visible historic features such as knees, beams, planking, etc will be
replicated. The ship will have three full-rigged masts that will be
fully operational. There will be twin diesel auxiliary engines. Modern
safety and navigational equipment will be installed. There will be
modern facilities, hidden below decks, for crew quarters. The vessel
will meet requirements for US Coast Guard Certification under both
Subchapter T, Small Passenger Vessel less than 100 gross tons, and
Subchapter R, Sailing School Vessel. Construction will be split into
two phases, with the second phase as an option to the contract;
however, proposals shall be submitted and evaluated on the complete
construction project. Award of the base contract and option is subject
to availability of funds. Preference shall be given to proposals for
construction of the vessel at a government furnished facility in Salem,
Massachusetts; however, proposals for alternative locations shall be
accepted. You may request a copy of this Request for Proposal in
writing by mail to National Park Service, North Atlantic Region, Attn:
Contracting Division, 15 State Street, Boston, MA 02109-3572 or by
facsimile to 617/223-5208. This solicitation is open to all concerns
regardless of size. (086) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0226 19950330\19-0001.SOL)
