Contracting Officer, (202)219-6445.. CNT RFQ L/A 95-13 The Bureau of
Labor Statistics seeks sources and information about existing
commercially available off-the-shelf software products/packages which
meet the BLS cross tabulation and data publication requirements. This
is not a Request For Proposals (RFP). The software is needed for cross
tabulation and formatting for publication of BLS data. It must have at
least the tabulating and formatting capabilities of the mainframe
system, Table Producing Language (TPL). This is a system developed by
BLS (Copies of the TPL documentation are available on request from BLS,
Victor Stotlant, 202/219-7619, Ext. 231). The user language must be
easy to use and readily understood by BLS economists and statisticians.
The system must be capable of duplicating the formats of all BLS
production and research tables. In addition, it must be capable of
producing postscript output and accessing data that is stored on BLS
SQL servers (SunSparc 10/20). The operating systems supported must
include DOS 5.1, Windows 3.1, and UNIX Solaris 2.2. The hardware
supported must include INTEL 386, 486, and Pentium computers having a
minimum of 8 MB RAM, and SunSparc servers having a minimum of 64 MB.
BLS is interested in information on the nature and availability of
software as described above which is commercially available as of the
response date of this notice. Vendors who have information as described
above are invited to submit it (in original and five copies) to the US
Department of Labor, Office of Procurement Services, Room S-5220, 200
Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20210. Vendors must be prepared
to provide the BLS with demonstration copies and documentation of
their software. Information must be sent to the attention of Mr.
Stephen Walter, and must be received no later than 4:30 p.m., EST, on
April 20, 1995. All responses which are timely received will be
considered by a panel of BLS employees for formulation of
recommendations relevant to a potential solicitation. If the
information provided seems to establish that the software will meet the
BLS requriements, then the panel, at its option, may request
demonstration copies of the software packages for in-depth evaluation.
This RFI does not commit the Government to pay vendors any costs that
they may incur in the preparation and submission of their responses
and does not commit the Government to issuing a solicitation document.
Additionally, as comments or information furnished may result in
changes in the anticipated procurement action, the Government reserves
the right to release or make public comments on information received;
however, in doing so, the Government will not release the identity of
the commentator. All firms/organizations which submit responses will
be included in the distribution of any subsequent solicitation. (0086) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0318 19950328\70-0008.SOL)
