257-8344. The United States Air Force has the requirement for a
Research Associate to conduct research in environmental fiber optic
detection for the Air Force Institute of Technology, Department of
Engineering Physics. The Research Associate will assist faculty in
research by preparing, characterizing and applying sol-gel materials
technology to environmental detection, particularly infrared, Raman and
Fluorescence fiber optic spectroscopy. The Research Associate must have
a Ph.D. in materials science, or materials engineering, or chemistry
with a specialty in optical sol-gel materials preparation. The Research
Associate must have demonstrated expertise in the field of preparation
of sol-gel materials for environmental detection applications by
having a minimum of three refereed publications in the areas of sol-gel
materials or chemical sensors in the past 5 years. The Research
Associate must have two or more years work experience in the area of
optical sol-gel materials beyond the award of the doctoral degree.
Experience in infrared and Raman fiber optic spectroscopy and molecular
recognition chemistry is also valuable experience. The contract period
will be one basic year plus one option year. The solicitation will be
issued approximately 07 April 1995. An Ombudsman has been appointed to
hear concerns from offerors or potential offerors during the proposal
development phase of this acquisition. The only purpose of the
Ombudsman is to receive and communicate serious concerns from potential
offerors when an offeror prefers not to use proposal development phase
of this acquisition. Potential offerors should use established
channels to request information, pose questions and voice concerns
before resorting to use of the Ombudsman located in ASC/CY, Bldg 2041,
