COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 23,1995 PSA#1309

Social Security Administration, Office of Acquisition and Grants, 1710 Gwynn Oak Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21207 Attn:/Marcia Friedman Katz

70 -- RELATIONAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DUE 031795 POC Marcia Friedman Katz tel: (410) 965-9477 The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking to identify vendors that can provide Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) software, server hardware, operating system software, system and database management tools and utilities, backup, recovery and archival hardware and software and teleprocessing monitor software. SSA has begun competitively acquiring the following: 56,500 workstations; 1742 IEEE 802.5 based Local Area Network (LAN) facilities; Wide Area Network (WAN) management facilities; notebook computers; associated peripherals; assistive peripheral devices for disabled users; software; training and support services to meet the agency's workstation; and LAN and network management requirements. The workstations and LANs acquired will be the foundation of the agency's Intelligent Workstation/Local Area Network (IWS/LAN) initiative. This initiative represents one of several key components which together will form the infrastructure necessary to implement cooperative, client-server based data processing applications within SSA. Under a separate initiative, SSA is planning to acquire the hardware, software and integration services necessary to implement and manage distributed databases. These databases will support the implementation of key agency mission critical On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Management Information (MI) applications, such as the Re-engineered Disability System (RDS). The RDBMS must support large distributed OLTP and MI systems which will provide database support to approximately 2000 locations. The RDBMS must be capable of being centrally managed and controlled. The server hardware will be installed on and must inter-operate with IEEE 802.5 based LANs. The server hardware must be designed for high availability and consist of a scalable family of processor systems which will provide the flexibility to size the hardware platform to meet initial and changing workload requirements. The operating system must be capable of supporting multi-user, multi-tasking and multi-threaded operations. Management tools and utilities are required which will provide for centralized system and database administration and operation, centralized system and database performance monitoring, software distribution and database access. In addition, information submitted should include the capability for a large integrated system to use teleprocessing monitor software, automated backup, recovery and archival hardware and software necessary to implement fault tolerant systems. Firms capable of providing the mentioned equipment and software are invited to submit complete information about their capabilities. Only written responses will be accepted and must clearly state the ability to provide equipment and software. No cost or pricing data is required or requested. This is not a request for proposal and the Government does not intend to pay for the information solicited or received. Interested parties must submit appropriate data in duplicate within 15 calendar days from the date of this publication. Respondents should refer to MFK-RDBMS. Acknowledgement of receipt will not be issued, nor will respondents be notified of the results of the evaluation of the data received. (0080)
