North Carolina Occupational Analysis Field Center (NC OAFC) of the
Employment Security Commission of North Carolina (NC SESA) is engaged
in a grant with the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to
participate in a review of the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL)
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT); the NC OAFC, as part of the
U.S. DOL's Occupational Analysis program, seeks to: (a) investigate
definitions of literacy and explore methods for obtaining workplace
literacy estimates of occupations/occupational clusters that will be
included in the new Occupation Information Network (O*NET) which will
replace the current DOT, and (b) investigate methods to link
occupational literacy requirements and individual literacy levels.
