Image Setters -- Destination: various -- Up to nine (9) image setters
of two format sizes, three (3) large format image setters mandatory
with options for an additional six (6) image setters of either size.
U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement for the purchase of
state-of-the-art image setters capable of plotting high quality
halftone images of digital cartographic data to graphic arts films. The
image setters will be used by the National Mapping Division of the USGS

map graphic products that are the results of sophisticated computer
processing. Two types of image setters with two separate and distinct
form factors are required: Large Form and Small Form. The Large Form

50.0-inches. The Small Form system shall accommodate a film size of
24.0 X 30.0-inches and be capable of plotting a minimum image area of
21.95 X 27.95 -inches. Other than the form factors, the minimum
technical requirements are the same for both types of image setters.
The image setter system configuration required is a total hardware and
software solution comprised of image setter with a laser light source
and a vacuum system to hold down films, host computer to operate and
manage the system operations, software for such operations as data
input, plot file interpretation and spooling, and necessary hardware
and software for network accessibility. The system is required to have
a graphical user interface and to have a PostScript interpreter. The
system must provide precise plotting of high quality halftone images to
both negative and positive graphic arts films, and correct positioning
and alignment of films for registration of color separates are
required. The system shall be operable under normal room lighting.
Maintenance shall be proposed as an optional item; delivery shall be
