Officer:LISA REA, Tel:713-483-8395 This announcement is for the design,
fabrication, and performance verification of a trace contaminant
removal system to ensure the health and safety of human test subjects
for the duration of a test which will be conducted for 90 days in a
9050 cu.ft. internal volumn chamber. Four human test subjects will
reside in the chamber and large scale plant growth experiments will be
conducted. Organic contaminants from equipment offgassing, experiments
and metabolic processes must be removed from the air, and levels of
contaminants must be kept below spacecraft maximum allowable
concentrations. Before fabrication, designs will be analytically
demonstrated to remove all target contaminants. After fabrication, a
performance verification test will be conducted. Designs that include
regenerative systems are encouraged. --The Crew and Thermal Systems
Division at NASA-Johnson Space Center will be conducting a 90 day
chamber test of life support hardware. The test will be conducted in a
chamber with 9050 feet cubed of internal volume. Inside the chamber,
water from washwater, urine, and humidity condensate will be collected
and purfified using physical chemical and biological processes. Carbon
dioxide in the air will be removed, and oxygen will be generated from
the recovered CO2. Four human test subjects will reside in the chamber
throughout the test. Large scale plant growth experiments will be
carried out during the test. --1 system to remove airborne trace
contaminants from a closed chamber --NASA, Johnson Space Center --All
items under the contract must be delivered by March 1, 1996. --This
procurement is being conducted under NASA JSC midrange Test Program
approved by the Office of Federal Procurement Policy on April 16, 1993.
