Adminsitration (NHTSA) has a requirement to conduct a nationwide
survey of the driving public. Speeding and other driving behaviors that
are considered unsafe (e.g., following too closely, running traffic
lights) are frequently cited as major contributors to crashes and
injuries. This study will survey the general driving population to
determine when, where, and under what conditions drivers engage in
speed and selected other unsafe driving behaviors, the reasons hazard
associated with these behaviors, and what would be required to convince
drivers that these behaviors are indeed hazardous in specific
situations. The anticipated period of performance is 24 months. The
solicitation will be mailed to those organizations responding in
writing to this announcement. The anticipated issue date for this
