COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 7,1995 PSA#1297US Army ARDEC, AMSTA-AR-PCW-D, Building 10, Picatinny Arsenal, New
Jersey 07806-5000 K -- MODIFICATION OF AN ELECTRO CHEMICAL MACHINING (ECM) PROTOTYPE MA
CHINE POC Errol Chisholm email=chisholm, Contract Specialist,
201-724-5770 Beverly F. Wasniewski, Contracting Officer, 201-724-2164.
The U.S. Army ARDEC is seeking information and potential sources to
develop improved electro chemical machining techniques for an Electro
Chemical Machining (ECM) prototype machine that is installed at Saco
Defense Inc. (SDI), Saco, Maine. This machine is designed to rifle 20mm
thru 30mm cannon barrels. The proposed effort must be conducted at
SDI's facility because it is not technically or economically feasible
to move the ECM prototype machine due to its size and complexity.
During the first year of the proposed effort, the potential contractor
shall develop improved process parameters and tooling configurations
for rifling 25mm M242 gun barrels on the ECM prototype machine. Barrel
blanks shall be manufactured for the ECM operation. Using the ECM
prototype, the contractor shall develop the operating parameters and
techniques required to Electro Chemically machine barrels that conform
to the applicable specification. A process demonstration is required.
Electro Chemically machined barrels shall be manufactured for out year
testing. During the second year of the proposed effort, the contractor
shall further refine and expand the ECM process to include the rifling
of barrel liner materials such as refractory metals and ceramics. The
proposed effort will result in generation of a final report,
recommendations for equipment, process requirements, purchase
descriptions, prototype tooling, and Electro Chemically machined
barrels for out year testing. This is only a Market Survey, not a
pre-solicitation notice. If a formal solicitation is generated at a
later date, a pre-solicitation notice will be published. Respondents
should submit their qualification data within 30 days from the date of
this publication. Telephone requests are not acceptable. Fax's may be
sent to (20l)724-4195. (0062) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0053 19950306\K-0002.SOL)
