The National Automated Highway System Consortium (NAHSC) is seeking
partnerships with sources of technology, concepts, and analyses to be
used in developing a prototype automated highway system. We invite you
to provide information concepts, products or services that you culd
supply. Please respond in written form only. The NAHSC is a
collaboration of private industry firms, universitites, and state DOT's
operating in a cooperative agreement with the USDOT. The Core Members
in the NAHSC are Bechtel, Caltrans, Carnegie Mellon University, Delco
Electronics, General Motors, Hughes, Martin Marietta, Parsons
Brinckerhoff, University of California at Berkeley the PATH Program,
and USDOT. The task of the NAHSC is to analyze alternate Automotive
Highway Systems (AHS) concepts; demonstrate AHS capabilities in 1997;
develop and test a prototype AHS; and develop specifications for future
AHS implementation. The Automated Highway System is being developed as
a potential next generation component of the U.S. ground
transportation system. Our goal is to provide an evolutionary path,
beginning with advanced crash avoidance feature, progressing through
partial vehicle control, and concluding with fully automated operation
of private, public, and commericial vehicles. The AHS will provide
substantially greater capacity, safety, and user convenience. While
some of the analyses and prototype technology will be developed within
the Consortium, we plan to acquire a considerable amount of technology
and services from outside the Consortium, so there is significant
opportunity for others to participate. We are interested in a broad
spectrum of areas, including, but not limited to, those listed in the
attachment to this annnouncement. Organizations and/or individuals
interested in participating in any of these aspects of the AHS program
are requested to: (1) identify their area of interest according to the
code described below, (2) provide a brief (1-2 page) descript8ion of
the product, service, analysis or research they are interested in
providing, and (3) a statement of qualifications. These may be
accompanied by supporting materials such as product and company
brochures. We will use this information to help us in the needs
assissment phase of the (0061) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0021 19950303\B-0007.SOL)
