Contracts Section, EPS/620, 6120 EXECUTIVE BLVD MSC 7224 A -- SUPPORT SERVICES FOR EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDIES SOL N01-CP-15672 POC
Barbara A. Shadrick, Contracting Officer, 301/496-8611. The National
Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Etiology (DCE), Epidemiology
& Biostatistics Program (EBP), Environmental Epidemiology Branch (EEB)
intends to negotiate with Westat, Incorporated, for an 11-month
extension of Contract Number N01- CP-15672 to allow for the
continuation and completion of a study entitled ''Nasopharyngeal
Carcinoma (NPC) Family Study'' currently being conducted under
subcontract with the National Taiwan University. This project began in
February 1991 and is expected to be completed by January 26, 1997. The
intent is to follow high-risk families with the goal of increasing our
understanding of the genetic factors involved in NPC pathogenesis and
the impact of viral and environmental factors on these genetic
factors. The on-going collaboration between NCI and the National Taiwan
University has resulted in the identification of a large registry of
families at high risk of developing NPC. Given the unique size and
nature of this registry, NCI, in collaboration with the National
Institute of Dental Research (NIDR) will conduct the extension of this
project through NCI's contract with Westat, Incorporated. AUTHORITY:
41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii) and HHSAR
306.302-1(a)(2)(ii). Inherent duplication of cost to the government and
unacceptable delays in establishing a relationship with the patient
population make competition unfeasible for this study which provides
for longer follow-up and data analysis. If, however, there are any
responsible sources who feel that there are extenuations which would
enable them to perform the requirement, they must respond within 45
days from the date of publication of this notice. No collect calls will
be accepted. See Note(s): 22. (0060) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0007 19950302\A-0007.SOL)
