EDUCATION SOL IPO-95-245. Contact Sharon De Grel, Team Leader Sci Ed
and Outreach Group, MS P278, Los Alamos, NM 87544, Tel: 505/667-1919,
Fax: 505/665-4093. The University of California which operates Los
Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of
Energy (DOE), is seeking an industrial partner to develop a
computer-based laboratory platform to enhance student understanding of
concepts and systems in fundamental science, mathematics and
technology. The computer-based laboratory platform will essentially
perform two functions: computer modeling of science/engineering
principles/experiments and computer control/communication with
laboratory equipment. The computer-based platform which consists of a
graphical user interface and an analog/digital control/communications
interface will be operable on both Machintosh and Windows equipment
readily found in most educational settings. The graphical user
interface will allow students to create visually-depicted computer
models and perform animated simulations of physical science concepts.
The control/communications interface attributes will allow students to
both control laboratory equipment and collect real-time experimental
data of new and previously simulated experiments. An industrial partner
is being sought to enter into a licensing agreement to commercialize
this technology for use by both the DOE and the commercial educational
market. In addition, LANL is interested in working with an industrial
partner under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA)
to continue the development of this technology. Prospective partners
must demonstrate solid computer software and harware development
experience for educational applications. Any company that wishes to
receive more information concerning this program must respond with a
statement of intent, describing the company's technical expertise,
production and marketing capabilities, financial resources, previous
technology transfer experience, and motivation for participation in the
program. The statement of interest must be dated within 15 business
days from the date of this notice. (058) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0020 19950228\A-0020.SOL)
