The project will be funded by USAID/Mozambique under the Rural Access Project (RAP) and will be implemented by the Government of Mozambique. Current plans under this project include the reconstruction of approximately 1,200 kilometers of rural roads which will be rehabilitated under multiple construction contracts between approximately 1996 and 2000, using host country contracting procedures. The total cost of the project will be in the range of $50 million. The first construction contract is expected to be awarded during the first quarter of calendar year 1996. A U.S. engineering firm under a USAID direct technical assistance (TA) short-term contract is now assisting the USAID in Maputo, Mozambique, in developing the design criteria and selection of roads for the project. It is envisioned that a U.S. engineering firm will be selected to provide TA and/or construction management services during implementation of RAP. This is NOT to be construed as a call for Pre-Qualification of Firms, which will be announced at a later date. The project is funded under the Development Fund for Africa and as such mandates that solicitations thereunder specify a 10% goal for subcontracting with Gray Amendment organizations. (0048)
