The Gemini 8-m Telescope Project is involved in the design and construction of two eight meter aperture optical/infrared telescopes, one to be located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini project is an international effort operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under contract to the National Science Foundation. The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project seeks qualified contractors to fabricate two welded steel structures, approximately 9 meters in diameter and 1.8 meters deep, used to support the eight meter primary mirrors. Each structure will be constructed from steel plate, stress-relieved and machined. The contract will include preparation of fabrication drawings, fabrication of the structures, and the provision of an assembly facility for integrating other components into these structures over a period of one year.
