perform definition, implementation, and management of a broad array of
ground-based and inflight medical operations and biomedical research
activities that are directed toward optimizing the health, safety, and
performance of flight crews during all phases of manned space flight.
The major programs involved are the Space Shuttle, including Spacelab
and Extended Duration Orbiter; the Shuttle Mir Science Program; and
the International Space Station Program, including the Crew Health Care
System and the Human Research Facility. The contractor's duties shall
include, but not be limited to, the following: support of research
studies; the operation of laboratory and ancillary equipment; ground
and flight hardware development and integration; program planning;
flight projects support; strategic planning; mission management; and
support of launch, flight, and landing operations. The contractor shall
support the following research and laboratories: Cardiovascular
Physiology, Nueroscience, Environmental Physiology, Exercise
Physiology, Bone and Muscle Laboratory, Behavior and Performance
Laboratory, Cell Science Laboratory, Space Biotechnology Laboratory,
Medical Operations Clinical Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory,
Toxicology Laboratory, Water and Food Analytical Laboratory,
Nutritional Biochemistry, Motor Performance Laboratory, Muscle Research
Laboratory, Pharmacology Laboratory, and Radiation Laboratory. The
period of performance will be one year with four, one-year options. It
is anticipated that a draft solicitation will be released on 5/1/95.
