accepted). The Air Force Command, Control, Communications, and Computer
Agency (AFC4A) is gathering information on the following communication
technologies: (1) High speed data cable technologies. (2) Battery
technology, particularly portable. (3) Wireless interfaces to
commercial telephone systems. (4) Multi-band and multi-protocol radios.
(5) Wireless LAN. (6) Personal communications, including personal
digital assistants and handheld wireless PCs. (7) Cellular systems,
including code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple
access (TDMA) and portable cell sites. (8) Switching systems and
packetizing protocols, including synchronous transfer mode (ATM),
synchronous optical network (SONET) and the fiber distributed data
interface (FDDI). (9) Commercial satellite, including worldwide voice
and data capabilities and broadcast satellites. The Air Force intends
to use the requested information to identify digital communications
trends in the commercial environment. The Air Force is evaluating the
cost, security, deployability, and ease of integration of each of the
identified key technologies into an interoperable, flexible,
pay-for-use communications structure. The Air Force is developing
communications architecture's to meet user requirements by providing
compatible communications data formats suited for transferring common
types of information across interoperable systems. Information is
requested by 13 Mar 95. This Request for Information is not a
commercial solicitation and the Government will pay neither for any
information submitted nor for any costs associated with providing this
