Contact A. Richard Farritor, 708/840-4611/Contracting Officer. 8GeV
Beam Enclosure-Projects 6-6-9 and 6-6-10. Project consists of the
construction of an underground enclosure approximately 1870 feet in
total length consisting primarily of 8 foot high by 10 foot wide by a
maximum 7.5 foot long precast concrete inverted ``U''-shaped elements
(201 units furnished by Fermilab) supported on a cast-in-place
rectangular enclosures of various cross-sections with maximum inside
dimensions of 9 feet high by 24 feet wide. Concrete work also includes
below grade elements of the future MI-8 Service Building including an
elevator shaft and pit, a vertical equipment access shaft, a stair to
grade, four caissons and an 8 foot high by 10 foot wide by 175 long
semicircular access enclosure connecting the MI-8 area and the 8GeV
Enclosure. Cast-in-place concrete volume will approach 3700 C.Y.
Excavation depth averages approximately 32 feet and total excavation
and backfill quantities will approach 140,000 C.Y. Work includes three
additional exit stairs, a shielded hatchway, earth retention systems,
temporary support of underground utilities, demolition and
reconstruction of 88 feet of existing concrete enclosure, 440 tons of
steel shielding furnished by Fermilab, underdrain system,
waterproofing, electrical work including convenience power, lighting,
UPS, and grounding systems, ventilation system, painting of enclosure
walls and ceilings, hollow metal doors, frames and hardware and
sitework including erosion control, rough roads, hardstands, culverts,
power and communication duct banks and manholes, utility system
extensions, berms, final grading and seeding. Project will be a
phase-funded fixed-price contract with bids evaluated on the basis of
the total cost for the three phases, A, B, and C. Initial award will be
made for Phases A and B with immediate Notice to Proceed for Phase A.
Phase B work will be coincident with a Laboratory shut-down later this
summer. Phase C will be awarded in October, 1995 subject to release of
DOE funding. (027) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0199 19950131\Y-0003.SOL)
