37831-6501 A -- DEMAND ACTIVATED MANUFACTURING ARCHITECTURE (DAMA) - UNIVERSITY
RESEARCH PROGRAM Sol. 1127-38. Due 022295. POC: Martin Marietta Energy
Systems, Inc., Attention: R. B. Wolfe, Purchasing Division, PO Box
2002, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37831-6501, Facsimile: 615-576-9645. Martin
Marietta Energy Systems, Inc., (Company) acting under Contract No.
DE-ACO5-84OR21400 issued by the United States Department of Energy
(DOE), operates the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge,
Tennessee. The Company requests expressions of interest from colleges
and universities to provide research support as part of DOE's support
of the American Textile Partnership ( a partmership of industry, DOE
laboratories, and universities) with regard to the Demand Activated
Manufacturing Architecture (DAMA) project. DAMA's mission is to improve
operations, and thereby the competitiveness, of the United States
Integrated Textile Complex (i.e. the supply chain from the U.S. based
fiber suppliers to and including retailers of fabric based products)
through the identification of advantageous business practice
modifications and the definition of a communications and computer
systems architecture to support these modifications. It is anticipated
that the program will involve multiple awards, each of which will be
in the range of $50,000 to $100,000 over a two-year period of
performance, for the support of graduate student research in the
targeted areas. It is anticipated that the subcontracts will be awarded
during FY95. The research will focus on topics in areas potentially
relevant to the DAMA mission. These areas include impacts of future
trends in the U.S. consumer environment upon demand for textile complex
products, improvements in fabricator approaches to providing ``shelf''
ready products, opportunities for improvement of and standards for
electronic interchange and use of texrile complex related information,
issues related to usability and reliability of textile complex
sourcing data bases, and methods for and the effectiveness of a DAMA
learning laboratory. Interested colleges and universities having a
textile complex based program (e.g., textile manufacturing, fabrication
and/or retailing of fabric based products) and expertise in other areas
required to support applicable research (e.g. information/computer
science, management, psychology as appropriate to the research) are
encouraged to submit a maximum three-page general outline of potential
area(s) of research and a statement of qualifications. Colleges and
universities which do not have the requisite textile complex based
program may meet this requirement by teaming with ogher institutions
with said capabilities. Submissions by Historically Black Colleges and
Univerisities (HBCUs) and Minority Institutions (MIs) are encouraged.
No telephone voice responses or requests will be accepted. This is not
a request for proposal. (020) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19950125\A-0005.SOL)
