Gaithersburg, MD 20899-0001 A -- ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM WORKSHOP SOL Q- DUE 020195 POC
Technical Contact: Dr. Thomas Lettieri (301) 975-3496 or Dr. Jack
Boudreaux (301) 975-3560 National Institute of Standards and Technology
Advanced Technology Program is offering a Workshop on Optoelectronics
and Optomechanics Manufacturing, February 15, 1995 to be held in the
Green Auditorium at NIST from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The purpose of this
workshop is to respond to industry interest and provide an open forum
for the exchange of ideas among interested members of the photonics
community concerning the strategic importance of optoelectronic and
optomechanical technologies to U.S. economic growth. This area is being
considered as a possible focused program within the Advanced Technology
Program (ATP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
The particular focus of the workshop will be on manufacturing of
optoelectronic/ optomechanical devices and systems, including design,
fabrication, packaging, assembly, metrology, testing, and
standardization. All levels of manufacturing are of interest: devices,
components, sub-assemblies, assemblies, and systems will all be
considered. In addition, all varieties of optoelectronics and
optomechanics are of interest, including laser diodes and VCSELs,
solid-state detectors and detector arrays, LED's, fiber-optics, optical
interconnects, optical integrated circuits, displays, micro-optics,
optical data storage devices, spatial light modulators, optical
scanners, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), and others. The
emphasis at the workshop will be on automated, semi-automated, and
flexible manufacturing techniques for low-cost, high-volume assembly of
optoelectronic and optomechanical systems. Note that at the workshop
only non-proprietary information is to be discussed; plans for specific
projects will not be discussed. We invite you to submit a white paper
describing your program ideas and participate in this workshop. A Guide
for Program Ideas has been developed to help you. White papers must be
received by February 1, 1995, to be considered for discussion at the
workshop. For a copy of the ATP Guide for Program Ideas and general ATP
information, or to add your name to the ATP mailing list, contact the
ATP OFFICE, (800) ATP-FUND or (800) 287-3863; e-mail:
atp@micf.nist.gov; or fax: (301) 926-9524. For additional technical
information, contact Dr. Thomas Lettieri, NIST, (301) 975-3496, or Dr.
Jack Boudreaux, NIST, (301) 975-3560. Attendees may register by mail
or fax by February 1, 1995. The registration fee is $50. Registration
includes workshop materials, coffee breaks, and lunch. Requests for
cancellation and refund must be submitted to Lori Phillips, in writing,
prior to February 1, 1995. On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m.
For additional registration information, please call Lori Phillips,
NIST, (301) 975-4513. For accommodations a block of rooms has been
reserved for workshop participants at the Gaithersburg Hilton, (301)
977-8900. The rate is $75, single or double plus 12% tax. To reserve a
room, please call the Hilton no later than February 1, 1995. After
that date, the rooms will be released for general sale at the
prevailing hotel rate. In case of severe weather, please call NIST's
Facilities Status Line, (301) 975-NIST (6478), for a pre-recorded
message of the status of NIST opening. If NIST is closed, there will be
no workshop. If NIST opens late, the workshop will be delayed. (0023) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0003 19950124\A-0003.SOL)
