The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking sources who can
supply monitor and keyboard switching capability for servers and LAN
bridges. The switching equipment will be installed in Woodlawn,
Maryland at SSA's National Computer Center and at six other sites:
Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago, Illinois; Jamaica, New York; Kansas City,
Missouri; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Richmond, California. The
proposed keyboard/monitor switching equipment must have the following
capabilities: 1) the switch unit must be configured with the capability
to support 16 server/LAN bridges; every port must be compatible with
all models of IBM PS/2, IBM A/T, and all 100% IBM-compatible server/LAN
bridges; the unit must be shipped as such, with no alterations required
to meet the specification; 2) the switch unit must provide this 16 port
capability in an EIA standard 19 inch wide rack-mountable housing, with
a vertical height not to exceed three and one-half inches (3.5''); 3)
switch units must be connectable to one another in daisy-chain fashion
to provide control/switching for up to 64 servers/LAN bridges under
the control of a single keyboard and monitor; 4) the user must be able
to extend the controlling keyboard and monitor to remote locations at
a distance of 100 feet from the location of switches; 5) the switch
unit must provide auto reboot on power-up of each server/LAN bridge
connected; 6) the switch unit must provide 100% keyboard emulation and
maintain keyboard mapping for each connected server/bridge; 7) the
switch unit must be capable of directly selecting each connected
server/bridge; 8) the switch unit must have optional automatic port
scan mode; and 9) the switch unit must operate reliably with cable
between switch and servers/LAN bridges in lengths up to 60 feet,
without relying on additional hardware to assure signal quality.
Interested firms able to provide the required equipment are invited to
submit information in sufficient detail to demonstrate their ability
to meet the technical requirement. Cross-reference to previously
submitted material is discouraged. No cost or pricing data is required
or requested. This is not a request for proposals (RFP) and the
Government does not intend to pay for information submitted.
