70 -- MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS OF THE GEOSTATIONARY OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SATELLITE (GOES) DATA DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (GDDS) SOL 52-DDNE-5-00001 POC Ronald J. The U.S. Department of Commerce/NOAA intends to issue an RFP for maintenance and operations of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Data Distribution System (GDDS). Principal Components of the GDDS are two facsimile satellite image processing and distribution systems, a remote platform data collection system, a satellite image registration and gridding system, two interactive computer processing systems and attached workstations, a computer-based system for shared processing of satellite data from other Federal agencies, high speed communication facilities, an analog image distribution system, high performance workstations, emergency power generators, and satellite ingest computers. Operations and maintenance support are also required for several NOAA National Weather Service Satellite Field Distribution Facilities. In addition to hardware support for these components, software and telecommunications support will be required for new satellite applications and systems. Most of the systems require 24-hour support, seven days a week. The contract will consist of a base period and four one-year options. The requirement was previously synopsized on January 18, 1994. Those respondents who previously submitted a written request under the original synopsis are not required to resubmit a request. The soliciation will be issued on or about January 19, 1995 and will close on or about February 28, 1995. Requests for the solicitation shall be in writing. (0003)
