Description
Across NIH, multiple programs exist to support SBIR-STTR companies in commercializing their products. While NIH provides significant funding to these companies, it is essential for them to secure additional funding sources and strategic partners to successfully bring healthcare products to market. PitchBooks comprehensive database includes extensive listings of deals, detailed personnel backgrounds, and insight into investor funding activitiesenables NIH staff to facilitate the critical networking opportunities that portfolio companies require to succeed in the competitive business landscape. Evaluating the impact and success of NIHs commercialization programs necessitates accurate, longitudinal data on company health and activity months to years following the conclusion of NIH grants. As these companies evolvethrough mergers, acquisitions, or personnel changes, PitchBooks platform allows NIH to effectively track company trajectories, link companies to marketed products, and monitor their financial relationships. The purchase of this Enterprise license will directly benefit the NIH Small Business Education and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) office and NIH staff across various Institutes and Centers who collectively manage NIHs $1 billion Small Business Program portfolio. It will enhance their capacity to assist small businesses in developing life-saving technologies and stimulating economic growth. SEED supports the NIH innovator community by fostering validation of promising scientific discoveries and advancing them into healthcare products that improve patient outcomes. This development process requires collaboration across universities, research institutions, small businesses, trade associations, angel investors, venture capitalists, and strategic partners. SEED leads initiatives that cultivate these relationships, creating pathways for NIH innovators to advance their product development efforts. SEEDs core objectives include enabling investigators to convert scientific discoveries into impactful healthcare solutions, coordinating early-stage product development across NIH, fostering a diverse entrepreneurial workforce, and showcasing NIHs role in enhancing patient care and driving economic growth. Therefore, the National Institutes of Health, Office of the Director, Office of Extramural Research, Small Business Education and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) has a critical requirement to renew the PitchBook Enterprise Subscription.
