Description
Sources Sought Notice: 2024-SPRDL1-25-R-0001 Item Name: Axle, Differential, Driving NSN: 2520-01-521-0572 Part Number: 63ZH0; CAGE 34623-AM General 5-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Contract Minimum 5-year Buy Quantity: 12/each Maximum 5-year Buy Quantity (estimated): 300/each End Item: High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) RESPONSE DATE: 18 DEC 2024 REQUIREMENTS DESCRIPTION: The driving differential axle for the HMMWV is a device that allows two wheels on the same axle to spin at different speeds while being powered by the same engine. This is particularly important when a vehicle is turning, as the outer wheel needs to travel a longer distance and spin faster than the inner wheel. The differential ensures that power is distributed evenly to both wheels, making the vehicle's movement smooth and efficient. This differential is specifically designed for use in the Up-Armored HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) fleet. The purpose of this differential is to maintain the vehicle's stability and control, especially during turns. Without a properly functioning differential, the vehicle would experience significant wear and tear on its tires and drivetrain components, leading to reduced efficiency and increased maintenance costs.
