Description
The CWG work activity provides scientific analysis and technical support needed to monitor and maintain the continuity and quality of ABI observations and the Cloud and Moisture Imagery (CMI) product, the designated Key Performance Parameter (KPP), from NOAAs GOES-R series of satellites. The work scope includes the development and refinement of data analysis and visualization tools that will support the monitoring of ABI observations and CMI product quality while enabling the identification of anomalies in these data and their resolution. It also includes participation in GOES-U post-launch test activities. The use of observations from instruments aboard NOAA and NOAA partner geostationary and low earth orbiting satellites that aid in the analysis and assessment of ABI observations is also in scope. All of this work activity requires close interactions and coordination with numerous stakeholders of the ABI product data including the GOES-R Program Systems Engineering (SE), the GOES-R Ground System Project (GSP), ABI instrument vendor (Harris), STAR's GOES-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG) Science Teams, the National Weather Service (NWS), and many other NOAA users. The contractor shall perform the following CWG activities: Develop and demonstrate ABI data analysis, monitoring, and visualization tools Identify and analyze anomalies associated with ABI L1b and CMI data Test and verify ABI spectral response function data and ABI look-up-table content Review GOES-U Post-Launch Tests (PLT), Post-Launch Product Tests (PLPT), and (post-launch) Sequence of Events (SOE) Support execution and comprehensive assessment of GOES-19 ABI post-launch tests (PLT) Generate GOES-19 ABI visible and infrared images for NOAAs first public release of GOES-19 imagery Support preparations for and participation in the GOES-19 ABI L1b/CMI Provisional maturity review Prepare documentation and presentations and communicate results of ABI data analysis to the GOES-R CWG team, GOES-R Program, and users The NGFS work activity provides scientific analysis and technical support to ensure operational readiness for NGFS active fire products derived from the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) and Himawari-9 geostationary satellites. As NOAA air quality prediction models require, the MTG and Himawari NGFS active fire products will enable more comprehensive fire emissions monitoring. While the NGFS can generate products from MTG and Himawari-9, the algorithms must be further validated and optimized for these satellites through comparison to satellite imagery and independent data sources. The contractor will frequently coordinate with the NESDIS Wildland Fire Program, NESDIS Office of Common Services, STAR Fire Science Team, and STAR Air Quality Science Team. The contractor shall perform the following NGFS activities: Develop NGFS algorithm configuration settings that are optimized for the Himawari-9 satellite Develop NGFS algorithm configuration settings that are optimized for the MTG satellite Quantitatively assess the accuracy of the NGFS active fire detection and fire radiative power products from Himawari-8 Quantitatively assess the accuracy of the NGFS active fire detection and fire radiative power products from MTG Prepare documentation and presentations and communicate results of NGFS analysis to the NESDIS Wildland Fire Program, NESDIS Office of Common Services, STAR Fire Science Team, STAR Air Quality Science Team, and user community
