- The Smithsonian Institution Tropical Research Institute (�STRI�) is providing this Notice of a Pending Solicitation.� The Smithsonian will be seeking Proposals for the demolition and reconstruction of the facilities, located at Gamboa, Republic of Panama. � The applicable North American Industry Classification Codes (�NAICS�) is 236220 Commercial and Institutional Building Construction, size standard is $45 million.� This announcement is open to all businesses regardless of size. Construction Budget estimated between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. The Prime Contractor must comply with SAM.gov and Panama Government's requirements.� This is a Federal Funded Contract and the selected contractor must have an Unique Entity ID number and be actively registered and current in SAM System (https://sam.gov ). The Company or companies must be legally registered and licensed to operate as a Construction Company in the Republic of Panama with DGI � tax entity and the �JTIA� -Technical Board of Engineering and Architecture active and valid certification for at least 5 years from the date of this solicitation, be commercially and legally active at present time in the Republic of Panama, and have performed or is performing at least three (3) construction projects, with a minimum value of 2M, during the past three (3) years. Background:� Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) currently carries partial research programs in the town of Gamboa. Been a strategic place for the investigation work carried by the institution, Gamboa, is located at the confluence of the Panama Canal and the Chagres River. It serves as the point of departure to Barro Colorado Island across the Panama Canal, , providinging an excellent location for terrestrial scientific investigation.. In 2007 STRI purchased from the Republic of Panama several properties in the town of Gamboa, including Building 56, the old Gamboa Elementary School designed by Meade Bolton and built in 1936. It is a two-story building, and the main structural elements are concrete and wood. The building is currently occupied, with dormitories and classrooms on the upper level and laboratory / research facilities on the ground floor.� The main aim of this project is the reconstruction of this building close to its original design as possible while retaining and reprograming the classrooms on the upper level and some dormitories & ancillary facilities on the ground floor. Existing laboratory facilities on the ground floor will be relocated to the new laboratory facilities complex in Santa Cruz Work under this project includes but is not limited to: Site and architecture demolition of existing building and site ������������� Complete demolition of the existing building�� and site elements, including removal of the existing underground structure foundations. o������������ Salvage, store and re-use, as indicated in the drawings, the wood floor finishes that at the moment of the demolition are in good condition. o������������ Salvage and deliver to the Smithsonian Institution all the existing elements that have a historical value, such as: exit door handles, doors hinges, and other elements that will be determined by the COTR and that shall be inventoried and documented on the existing conditions survey. ������������� Modify underground infrastructures and provide new point of connections for the utility's services, as indicated in the drawings. ������������� Build a water reserve tank and pump room for the domestic water and fire protection systems supply. ������������� Build a new exterior space for an electric generator. Provide and install a new generator to cover the electric loads of the building as indicated on the drawings. ������������� Build a new exterior space for the external equipment's of the HVAC system. ������������� Build a new parking area. Modify existing curb and sidewalk, as required.� ������������� Build new concrete structures: foundations, columns, slabs. ������������� Build a new metal trusts structure for the roof. ������������� Supply and install new roofing system. ������������� Build a new enclosure, windows, door, flashings and decorative elements to renovate the facade and exterior elements. ������������� Supply and install new MEPF components, as indicated in drawings and complying with the applicable codes. ������������� Build new internal partitions and install new finishes as indicated in drawings. Construction of new building Project testing, completion, and approval of occupancy permit The Contractor shall be required to (a) commence work under this contract within 10 calendar days after the date the Contractor receives the notice to proceed, (b) prosecute the work diligently, and (c) complete the entire work ready for use in no more the 300 calendar days. The full solicitation, request for proposals, will be released on or about July 2024 however, there is no guarantee or implication of a guarantee this project will be solicited. Responses will be due within (30) days of release. Electronic copies will be uploaded to SAM.gov site. This notice does not obligate the Government to award a contract or otherwise pay for the information provided in response. No attachments or links have been added to this opportunity.
