- Description
- USAMMDA has a requirement to procure an Intravenous Syringe Pump (IVSP). The IVSP is a medical device used to administer a highly accurate and consistent volume for small amounts of intravenous (IV) fluids such as antibiotics, regional anesthetics, antiarrhythmic medications, and chemotherapeutic agents in hospitals (role of care 3), veterinary medicine, and medical units able to conduct advanced resuscitation procedures and lifesaving surgeries (role of care 2). IVSPs should be able to provide a flow of 0.1 to at least 99.9 mL/hr in 0.1 mL increments and maintain an accurate flow rate to within 5% of flow settings. Pumps should accommodate syringe sizes from 3 to 60 mL. Pumps that accept syringes smaller than 3 mL may be advantageous in some settings. The pump should be designed to revert to a KVO (keep vein open) rate between 1 and 5 mL/hr (but not greater than the programmed flow rate) once the programmed volume is delivered. Facilities should also look for pumps that have pump-based priming.
