- SCOPE OF WORK (SOW) FOR USCGC ALDER (WLB 216) MAIN PROPULSION DIESEL ENGINE (MPDE) TOP END INSPECTION AND REPAIR 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 BACKGROUND The 225� WLB asset, USCGC ALDER, experienced a mechanical failure of both MPDEs while operating at full power in transit mode resulting in unusual noise, extreme charge air temperatures, exterior paint failure in the vicinity of the intake air chamber, dense black smoke from the exhaust stack, and power reduction. 1.2 SCOPE The Contractor shall provide all personnel, labor, materials, travel, parts, tools, test equipment, test fittings, supplies, consumables, and equipment to accomplish tasking. The Contractor shall provide the services of a qualified Tech Rep familiar with the Caterpillar 3608, to accomplish all tasking. The Tech Rep will be responsible for the following: � Advise on manufacturer's proprietary information pertinent to the system. � Assist with proper repair methods and ensure compliance with manufacturer's procedures and standards during disassembly, inspection, repair, modification, calibration, and reassembly of the equipment/system. � Ensure compliance with manufacturer's procedures and standards during disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of the shaft seals. 1.2.1 REFERENCES Coast Guard Publications � TP 3518A-233-A, Main Diesel Engine, Model 3608/1 � TP 3518B-233-A, Main Diesel Engine, Model 3608/1 1.3 OBJECTIVE The objective is to inspect all necessary portions of both engines to determine the cause and scope of damage and make recommendation for appropriate repair plan. 1.4 TASKS 1.4.1 Disassembly and inspection (physical or borescope) of top end components necessary to determine cause/scope of damage. 1.4.2 Inspection of exhaust turbo charger (ETC) to determine cause/scope of damage. 1.5 DELIVERY Contractor will provide CFR with findings and recommended repair plan within 2 days of inspection completion. 1.6 SECURITY Base access is required.
