Please see next page for responses. Jean M. Paul Contracting Officer Request for Information/Questions Responses DATE: 5/23/2024 FROM: Yingjie Yeung, Contract Specialist PROJECT: Replace ICU and 200N Roofs at Northport VAMC #36C24224B0027 SUBJECT: Request for Information and Questions Responses Detail 5/A-104 shows a two (2) piece coping with the two (2) respective pieces hooked together. Detail 2/A-104 shows the two (2) piece coping with the two (2) respective pieces lapped. Given the format of the coping, hooking them as shown in detail 5/A-104 is not practical. May they be lapped as shown in 2/A-104? Response: Specification section 076000 Flashing and Sheetmetal section 2.4.C Cleats states flashing 12 inches or wider will need to be attached to the blocking with cleats. As long as the sections are followed you can use an alternative method than that shown. It should be noted that the details in question should have been noted as 2/A-504, and 5/A-504. The locations of these details are shown on A-104 but detailed on A-504. The question as noted was hard to understand. Core cuts of the roof assembly were not allowed during the walkthrough. 07 01 50.19.1.7.B.1.b stated that cores are available. So that the removal of the existing roof and calculation of any height issues may be determined, please provide photos and reports of the existing roof assembly on the each of the roof areas. Response: Core samples were not taken as we had a thermo-imaging report that shows the roofs and where the potential roof leaks are and a hazard materials report. Both of these may be available from the owner. - In regards to the to the existing roof assemblies: For liability purposes I cannot specifically state the exact roof constriction but will describe it in general detail as follows; Roof 200N Revise roof sections as follows, -3/AD501, Concrete roof deck, 6 +/- Tapered rigid roof insulation, EPDM Roofing, and stone ballast. -4/AD501 Concrete roof deck, 6 +/- Rigid roof insulation, EPDM roofing, with Stone Ballast -5/AD501, Steel deck, 6 +/- tapered roof insulation, EPDM roofing, with stone ballast -It should be noted that all of the existing roofs that are to be removed have stone ballas that will have to be removed. This ballast is not shown on all of the removal details as it would be redundant. These roof descriptions however were described in greater detail on the alternate drawings AD103, and AD104. -AD101 & AD102, Key note 8 shall be revised to Remove flat roof membrane and insulation, and stone ballast to concrete deck. -AD101 & AD102, Key note 10 shall be revised to Remove tapered insulation, roofing, and stone ballast to concrete deck. -AD101 & AD102, Key note 21 shall be revised to Remove tapered insulation, roofing, and stone ballast down to the metal deck. -AD-1-1 General note 5 shall read, control to remove all materials including those noted and un-noted as there may be wood blocking, anchors, vapor barrier, etc. under the roof surface that is not indicated on the drawings. -ICU Building, revise roof sections a follow; -4/AD503 This section shall be revised as follows; steel roof deck, 5 +/- roof insulation, EPDM roofing and stone ballast. -All of the roof areas for this building have stone ballast that will need to be removed. Specification 04 01 00 is for masonry repairs. Our review of the plans did not show any masonry repairs. Can you clarify if there is masonry to be repaired? Response: For liability purposes I cannot specifically state where the masonry repairs will occur but refer to the details on A-501, though A-505. There are new scuppers to be installed, saw cuts, and other areas that will require masonry work. Specification 07 22 00 2.5.C.2 calls for self adhered sheet vapor retarder. Specification 07 27 26 2.3.A calls for a fluid applied air barrier. Can the self adhered sheet vapor retarder, as it standard and acceptable for TPO systems be used? Response: The self-adhered vapor barrier can be used on the concrete decks only. Specification 07 52 23 2.4.D.1 calls for Metal Roof Edging products by roof membrane manufacturer. Most manufacturer provide metal roof edging come in 12 lengths. Specification 07 60 00 2.9.A.1 calls for metal edging not greater than 10 in length. Should the 12 manufacturer provide metal edging be used? Response: The 12-foot length material can be used. The specification calls for water based bonding adhesive. Given Water based bonding adhesive s acceptable temperature window, it may not be feasible to use. May low VOC spray applied bonding adhesive be used as is the standard for Firestone and other TPO manufacturers? Response: The low VOC spray applied bonding adhesive can be used. Specification 07 54 23 3.5.D.4 calls for sealing the seams with lap sealant. This is non-standard for heat welded TPO seams. Must the seams be sealed with lap sealant against Firestone and other TPO manufacturer details? Response: The seams shall be sealed as per the manufacturer s recommendations. The lap sealant will not be required. Specification 07 54 23 3.6.D calls for field fabricated expansion joints. Field fabricated expansion joints are industry standard and are included under the manufacturer roof warranty. Specification 07 95 13 2.4 calls for a C/S Model RJT-200VF expansion joint. This would not be included under the manufacturer's roof warranty. Which expansion joint style should be used? Response: Use the field fabricated expansion joints Specification 07 54 23 3.8.3 describe interlocking connectors for the pavers. What interlocking connectors specified? Response: Interlocking connectors for the pavers will not be required. Many of the metal flanges specified for the respective metal trim call for a 4 flange. The flashing used to seal the metal trim is 6 wide, and is required to be half on and half off of the flange. May 3 flanges be used in order to be compliant with the manufacturer warranty requirements? Response: The 3 metal flashing flanges can be used. Please advise where detail 6/AD504 for stone ballast removal is to be performed.  We do not see this indicated in Plan view. Response: Detail 6/AD501 is for the removal of the roofing, insulation, and stone ballast for the stair roof alternates at building 200N. Sign-in sheet request Response: No Further Questions.
