The Philadelphia District of the Corps of Engineers intends to procure Layshaft Laser Alignment Readings on the Dredge McFarland during Fiscal Year 2024. The Government is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to identify resources available to complete the required work. INTENT The intent of this scope of work is to provide laser alignment readings of both the port and starboard side layshaft bearings, layshaft, drum bearings, motor driven gearbox, and drum shafts. Physical bearing alignment and movement will not be performed under this contract. HISTORY The starboard and port layshafts and drum shafts were aligned using a laser alignment procedure in May 2020. The starboard and port final alignment reports from May 2020 will be made available with the solicitation. SCOPE OF WORK The contractor shall provide all necessary labor, material, services (including rigging), parts, tools, material and equipment to perform and complete the work in accordance with the following specifications in both the port and starboard winch rooms, forward and aft. The Government will provide forklift and crane service as required. Laser alignment readings shall be taken while the vessel is moored at the Mooring Barge 2 located in Mifflin Range near the mouth of the Schuylkill River. The Government will provide launch services to/from the Mooring Barge 2. On each of the port side and stbd side winch rooms, there is one winch layshaft (comprised of 5 sections), 19 bearings, a motor driven gearbox, and three drum shafts. The port and starboard winch rooms are located on upper levels of the voids, outboard of the hopper. The dragarm winch extends from approximately Frame 49 to Frame 87 (approximately 75 feet), and contains equipment servicing the trunnion elbow, ball joint, and draghead. Laser Alignment Readings Using laser alignment, verify the alignment of the entire port and starboard layshaft system (from trunnion to draghead), the three drum shafts, the gearbox and motor, and nineteen bearings, using the attached alignment reports from May 2020 as reference. Verify the parallel and angular alignment of layshaft to drum shafts (both vertically and horizontally). This procedure may require the removal of existing bearings caps. Any laser reading results requiring realignment of the drum shafts, and subsequent bull gear to the pinion gear, shall be reported to achieve maximum gear efficiency (95% is optimal).
