- Description
- Industry Day Background Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) is a United States Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. The laboratory is located near Batavia, Illinois, outside Chicago. Fermilab aims to become a world center in neutrino physics. The laboratory was founded in 1969 as the National Accelerator Laboratory and named in honor of Enrico Fermi in 1974. Fermilab has a rich history and has hosted or participated in hundreds of experiments during its more than 50-year history. Fermilab is America's premier laboratory for particle physics research and houses seven particle accelerators that provide beam for numerous experiments and R&D projects. Fermilab fosters the cutting-edge experiments in particle astrophysics, like the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Dark Energy Survey. Fermilab has been heavily involved in science education to help develop the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and scientific literacy. Fermilabs mission has brought together people from all over the world to investigate the deepest mysteries of the universe in a diverse and unique environment. Fermilab consists of approximately 6,800 acres. Fermilab is operated by Fermi Research Alliance, LLC (FRA), a joint venture between the University of Chicago and Universities Research Association (URA). Fermilab is a part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor. The average personnel on location at Fermilab during a workday in the month of September 2023 is approximately 1,686. This number includes DOE employees, FRA employees, interns, subcontractors, associates & visitors to Fermilab. Link to History of Fermilab: Fermilab | History and Archives | About (fnal.gov) General Fermilab Research Alliance LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy Location: Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory, Batavia, Illinois Services Description: Cafeteria Operations & Catering Services Scope of Services Fermilab is seeking a turn-key solution (full package) providing all required labor, supplies, consumables, and supervision needed.
