Description
36C24623B0060 Update Public Address System Amendment 0001 - Responses to Vendor Questions The site visit consisted primarily at looking into communication closets. An in-depth site walk is needed given that the SOW calls for pathways, which the original site visit did not consist of. The VA s drawings do show locations for new pathways, however it s much more beneficial having eyes into the various areas of the building escorted by a VA Representative that can provide details of the building lay out. Can the VA schedule another site visit to cover these areas? Response: This was discussed during the initial walk. The COR asked all attendees if an in depth look into the pathways was desired. The response from all attendees was no. The COR may not be available for another walkthrough. The contracting office will decide if another walkthrough is necessary. On Drawing Number EY138, Coded Note 1 states, Provide new low voltage cable and conduit to connect new ceiling mounted speakers per manufacturer s requirements. What size conduit is needed, and are boxes & flex required at speakers or just conduit with insulating bushing? Response: ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Drawing Number EY138, Coded Note 3 states, Stub conduit up to exterior wall mounted, NEMA 3R pull box and stub conduit through building wall. Per EY100, this is existing underground fire alarm conduit. If so, need to know where and how to intercept. If not, need to know size for new conduit. Response: VA standards require fire alarm to be installed in separate conduit. During a previous project for the fire alarm upgrade, an additional empty run of conduit was installed next to the fire alarm s conduit for future expansions. Field verification is required. On Drawing Number EY139, Coded Notes 1, 4, and 5 refer to new conduit. What size conduit is needed, and are boxes & flex required at speakers or just conduit with insulating bushing? Response: Fiber will be routed in 2 conduit. ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Drawing Number EY139, Coded Notes 4 and 5 are shows as, routed form Bldg 5. Sheet EY100 shows this as 2 conduits, what is needed and at what size? Response: Fiber will be routed in 2 conduit. On Drawing Number EY140, for Coded Notes 3 and 4, what size conduit is needed? Response: Fiber will be routed in 2 conduit. On Drawing Number EY140, Coded Note 5, what size conduit is needed, and are boxes & flex required at speakers or just conduit with insulating bushing? Response: ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Drawing Number EY141, Coded Notes 4 and 5, what size conduit is needed? Response: ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Drawing Number EY141, Coded Note 4, what size conduit is needed, and are boxes & flex required at speakers or just conduit with insulating bushing? Response: ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Drawing Number EY150, Coded Notes 2 and 3, what size conduit is needed? Response: ¾ EMT conduit will be specified for all low voltage speaker wiring. Sheet E-601 will show size. On Specification 27 51 16 19 2.5, Item #6, what are the existing amplifier loads or wattage sizes at each building? Size the replacement amplifiers to the speaker load with 25% spare capacity. Response: This will require field verification On Specification 27 51 16 20 2.5, Item #3, is the requirement for (1) spare amplifier in total for site or per cabinet location? Response: One (1) spare in total for project. How many speaker circuits are there at each amplifier? Response: This will require field verification What are the voltages of the existing speakers in each building? 25 volt, 70 volt, 4 ohm 8 ohm, 16 ohm? Response: This will require field verification What is the existing phone system? IP Based or Analog? Manufacturer & Model Number? If IP Based, how many phones total are in the system? Response: This will require field verification What type of interface is expected from the Access Control System? Sequence of Operation? Response: No interface is required from the Access Control System What type of interface is expected from the Fire Alarm System? Sequence of Operation? Response: No interface is required from the Fire Alarm System On Specification 27 51 16 10 2.2 A, what type of interface is expected from the HF Radio System? Sequence of Operation? Response: No interface is required for the HF Radio On Specification 27 51 16 10 2.2 B, what hat type of interface is expected from the MATV, Red, Patient Bed Service Walls, SSC Room Systems? Sequence of Operation? Response: No interface is required for these systems What are the existing Nurse Call Systems (Manufacturer and Model Number)? Response: Raulands Responder 5 On Specification 27 51 16 10 2.2 g, what type of interface is expected from the Nurse Call System? Sequence of operation? Response: No interface is required from the Nurse Call Systems On Specification 27 51 16 19 2.5, Item #7(a)(1) (a, b, c, d), how many events or messages are required through the Nurse Call\Code Blue events? How many Staff are expected to receive messages? Response: N/A Pre-recorded messages are requested but not required. What are the existing Code Blue Systems? Sequence of Operation? Response: Currently tied into Nurse call and Linx. On Specification 27 51 16 - 23 E, where are the Patient Bedside Prefabricated Units and How many? Response: No interface is required from the Patient Bedside On Specification 27 51 16 - 23 E, what is the operation action for the PBPU's How does this tie into the PA System? Response: No interface is required from the Patient Bedside On Specification 27 51 16 - 19 2.5, Item #7, what are the Wireless Systems (Radio Paging Equipment)? Sequence of Operation? Response: Wireless systems do not apply to this project On Specification 27 51 16 - 19 2.5, Item #7, where are the demarcation locations for the Nurse Call, Code Blue, Radio, Phone System & Fire Alarm? Are they at each building or only one location for entire campus? Response: These systems are not applicable to this scope of work Who will be responsible for the equipment and programming of the interfaces for the Nurse Call, Code Blue, Radio, Phone & Fire Alarm Systems from the non-Public Address (PA System) equipment side? Response: This equipment is not applicable to this scope of work Are there specific fiber network switches desired? Manufacturer and Model Number? Response: Requested to match existing to be verified on site. Contractor s decision must stay within specifications. Is all work to be performed during normal business hours between 7 am and 5 pm? Response: Some afterhours work will be required. Work is to be executed as to interfere as little as possible with normal functioning of this facility, it s guests and it s staff. Coordinate schedule with COR. refer to Specification 01 00 00 pg. 03 para 1.6. Will there be known tasks that require weekend or after hours work to be completed? If so, please identify. Response: See question #30 Will we be able to work in office areas during normal business hours? Response: See question #30, coordinate with COR. Most offices do not have a PA speaker. Will there be easy access into the Telecom Rooms and supervision required during work performed? Response: Escort by VA employee required. Coordinate with COR Will labelling of existing speaker circuit cables and racks be required as per the specifications section 3.4 F? Response: If labels on existing system are damaged or missing, a new label must be established. The drawings indicate the armored fiber optic cable will be ran in the same conduit raceways as the fire alarm system in several areas. Is there adequate space for armored cable and pull strings installed for use? If damage is inadvertently caused due to pulling cable in raceways with existing cabling for other systems, who is responsible for the cost of repair or will this be handled by the facility? Response: See response to comment #3 Are the manholes accessible and do they require any special hazard precautions or procedures? If so, who is responsible for detection, extraction or supervision? Are there additional costs and what are they? Response: The Facility s Safety Office considers manholes a confined space. Contractor is to develop a safety plan to be submitted to and approved by the COR and Safety Office. Personal entering confined spaces need to be certified.
