- STATEMENT OF WORK Ceiling Painting and Drywall Repair LONG ISLAND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE COMPLEX WERTHEIM REFUGE 340 SMITH ROAD, SHIRLEY, NY 11967 PART A GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS This project is located inside the Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex Headquarters Visitor Center (HQ/VC Building) located at 340 Smith Road, Shirley, NY 11967. PROJECT: The HQ/VC Building has approximately 1,000 sq. ft. of ceiling paint work and repair that needs to be done. The ceiling varies in height between 10 and 12 feet. It is strongly recommended that the contractor do a site visit before bidding on project. The ceiling has 7 aluminum ventilation ducts that measure 3 inches wide with an overall length of all 7 ducts being approximately 150 feet in total. The ducts need to be stripped of peeling paint and joint compound, properly primed with a self-etching primer prior to finish. Any cracks, gouges, or holes will be properly repaired prior to painting using high quality joint compound, sheetrock board, tape, screen etc. There are two separate areas on the ceiling that suffered water damage. The one area measures roughly 2 x 2 and the other is roughly 3 x 3. Both areas will need sheetrock removed with proper new sheetrock patches installed, blended in to provide a smooth finish. The ceiling has many inspection ports, track lighting, hanging light fixtures, vents and other various sensors. Whenever possible if a trim ring can be lowered or removed prior to painting, that is the preferred method rather than painting around the unit. Painters tape will be used to protect fixtures in ceiling from getting unwanted paint on them. Where walls meet ceiling there should be as close to perfect paint transition with no paint runs or sags. Before any overhead work begins all surfaces below will be covered with protective materials that protect from falling paint, dust, joint compound. All surfaces will be primed with a high-quality drywall primer allowing adequate time to dry before applying 2 coats of high-quality ceiling white Latex paint such as Sherwin-Williams brand. The new paint should match the color of the old paint as close as possible. All work materials, tools, food bottles, food containers, safety equipment should be cleaned up, removed, and properly disposed of off property. Wall marks, chips, dents, holes, etc. are the responsibility of the contractor. A pre-and post-inspection will be completed. GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: The contractors employees and representatives must maintain professional conduct and appearance. The contractor will schedule work to minimize disruption to normal work routines and schedules. The contractor is charged with the professional performance of all duties to ensure the protection and/or conservation of government facilities and property. No work will take place on any federal holidays, or weekends. Hours that work will be permitted are 7:00am to 4:00pm. The contractor will need to provide proof of adequate insurance as well. CONTACT INFORMATION: Possible contractors are encouraged to contact Walt Martens, Facility Manager at 631-286-0485 ext. 2156 or walter_martens@fws.gov to schedule a site visit Contract Specialist: William Koski, William_koski@fws.gov
