- Description
- This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items using Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This acquisition will be made in accordance with the format in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 12.6 Streamlined Procedures for Evaluation and solicitation for commercial Items, as applicable, and as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation (a written solicitation will not be issued) and quotes are being requested. The Solicitation number is RFQ-NIAID-23-2175809 and the solicitation is issued as a Request for Quotes (RFQ). This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The solicitation documents and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 2023-02 March 16, 2023. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this procurement is 325414, Biological Product (Except Diagnostic) Manufacturing, with a size standard of 1250 employees. The requirement is being competed with a brand name restriction, and with a small business set-aside. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Laboratory of Viral Diseases (LVD), explores fundamental aspects of cell and molecular biology, viral pathogenesis, and viral immunology within the context of a diverse group of medically important viruses that includes alphaviruses, coronaviruses, enteroviruses, flaviviruses, herpesviruses, human/simian immunodeficiency viruses, influenza viruses, and poxviruses. The goals of these research programs are to create knowledge that increases a basic biological understanding of these pathogens and their interactions with their hosts and to generate new strategies for preventing and treating viral diseases. Within the LVD, the Emerging Virus Immunity Unit, focuses on viruses that have caused the majority of outbreaks and pandemics over the last century. Rapid development of small animal models and understanding of the mechanisms that promote long-term protection to viral infections are critical for the development of vaccines and therapeutic treatments. Project Description: The goal of the Laboratory of Viral Diseases (LVD) is to carry out investigations of the molecular biology of viruses, the interactions of viruses with host cells, the pathogenesis of viral diseases, and host defense mechanisms to viral infections. The aims for this project are to determine how the infiltrating immune cells impact alphavirus disease progression and resolution. Additionally, we will establish the main cell types infected at the site of infection and in distal tissues. These studies will increase our fundamental knowledge of alphavirus biology and host factors that modify disease resolution as well as facilitate the development of new approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease.
