Storage of endoscopes in automated cabinets with forced instrument-grade air is the recommended Endoscope storage practice. Automated cabinets enable compact horizontal storage of endoscopes. Automated cabinets may extend storage time with decreasing unnecessary reprocessing and related costs. An automated cabinet utilizing forced instrument-grade air effectively and efficiently eliminates residual endoscope moisture which may produce microbial growth. Endodry Drying and Storage cabinet, validated with incoming instrument-grade compressed air per ISO 8573-1 which defines compressed air by particles, humidity, and oil, shortens the amount of time needed to fully dry the internal channels of a flexible endoscope compared to traditional handing methods. The cabinet produces a cost savings from less re-processing of endoscopes which have exceeded storage times. It uses a cassette to minimize endoscope handling and potential recontamination. It provides a controlled environment for the drying and storage of endoscopes after a successful preprocessing cycle. The SMART connect feature of the Endodry Cabinet won t allow an endoscope to be scanned into the cabinet unless it has undergone a successful HLD cycle in the AER. Additionally, it won t allow the endoscope to enter the Endodry Cabinet if the endoscope has been removed from the AER without entry into the cabinet for over an hour. This unit will be additional STERIS product to accompany the existing STERIS units on station that has been previously purchased. This unit is compatible with current STERIS product and will help prevent future patient safety findings.
