Description
THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR BIDS PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME PROJECT NUMBER: NM FTFS 233(1) PROJECT NAME: Tularosa AOP Improvements PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The NM FTFS 233(1) Tularosa AOP project is located in Catron County, NM within the Gila National Forest. The project site is approximately 3.5 miles northeast of Reserve, NM in rolling terrain. This project will replace an existing concrete low water crossing and restore the stream channel downstream of the crossing. SCOPE OF THE WORK: The proposed road improvements include replacement of the existing concrete low water crossing and apron, which has been undercut by stream erosion. The replacement low flow channel of the crossing structure will be comprised of articulated concrete blocks. In addition, the channel downstream of the low water crossing would be reconstructed to accommodate Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) and prevent further erosion and sedimentation during flood events. The stream will be reconstructed with engineered glide and riffle structures composed of gravels, cobbles, and riprap which mimic the natural stream channel, in an effort to provide a consistent and stable channel slope. Several log spanner jam structures will be constructed at critical locations to prevent erosion of the channel banks during flood events. The spanner jams are comprised of a matrix of root wads, logs, and natural soils. Stream diversions will be required during construction of the low water crossing and reconstruction of the streambed channel. It is anticipated that pump around diversions will be the most effective, while also having the least effect on the surrounding environment. The base flow rate in the Tularosa River at this location is approximately 3.0 cubic feet per second (cfs). The road is aggregate surfaced on either side of the low water crossing. The road provides access to grazing allotments and a fire lookout tower. Traffic volumes along the route are very low with approximately 30 vehicles per day using the road. It is anticipated the road will be closed during construction; however, emergency, and administrative access will still need to be provided by the contractor. PRINCIPAL WORK ITEMS: Description, Unit, Est. Quantity Streambed Channel Reconstruction, LNFT, 800 Articulated Concrete Block, SQYD, 120 Roadway Aggregate, TON, 200 ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: The anticipated advertisement date is June 2022 with an award date of August 2022. Construction is anticipated to occur between September 2022 and November 2022. ESTIMATED COST RANGE: The proposed project is estimated at a cost of between $250,000 and $700,000
