Description
This is a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center (LaRC) Request For Quote (RFQ). It is emphasized that the requested quote does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that NASA will solicit for such a procurement in the future. The Government is not responsible for any costs incurred in furnishing this quote. NASA is issuing this Request For Quote (RFQ) for linear drive actuators (referred herein simply as actuator or actuators which means the entire assembly of electric motor, gearbox and translation mechanism and all ancillary components therein) to support a non-flight, groundbased volumetric and mass technology demonstrator. Electrical and mechanical characteristics of the actuators shall include: ? Brushed 24 VDC motor preferred for use with existing power and control system, but brushless 3-phase motors may be quoted. ? Reversable motor/gearmotor. ? Single-winding motors. ? Position encoders shall be incorporated (absolute position or motor turn count). ? Open ballscrew with flanged ballnut. ? Stroke length of 3 inches. ? Stroke rate of 1.0 in/sec. ? Dynamic force capability of 300 lbf. ? Temperature and pressure rating: Ambient room temperature and pressure ? Form-factor shall be flight-like. ? Mass shall be flight-like. NASA is seeking quotes for the following quantities: 1. 1 (one) linear drive actuator 2. 1 (one) motor for initial set up and testing 3. Quotes for 4 subsequent linear drive actuators for optional purchase Delivery date of all procured products shall be no later than February 1, 2023. Due to this being a non-flight, ground-based technology demonstration, the selection of materials and processes used to construct the actuators should match that of the flight design to the extent possible, however, the pedigree of the parts and materials used in the construction of the actuators shall be relaxed provided reasonable justification is provided without any sacrifice in functional performance or safety of the delivered hardware. Existing or used linear actuators, or existing and/or used constituent components, in good working condition may be included in the quote to expedite delivery. RFQ Submittals: Interested parties should respond with the following information: 1. General Description a. Describe the companys capability to meet the specifications and requirements; specifically noting any areas of noncompliance and recommendations to mitigate or correct the noncompliance; including changes to the requirements themselves. 2. Flight or Technology Heritage/Qualification a. Describe the companys relevant experience with manufacturing linear actuators; especially experience with space flight qualified hardware as described above. b. Describe the extent to which existing proven commercial technology can be leveraged to minimize technical and schedule risk. c. Describe any new technologies to be employed on this effort, and any modifications to existing technology, necessary to meet the requirements. Describe risks associated with incorporating the new or modified technology and how the risks can be minimized. 3. Test and Inspection Program a. What test program(s) or evidence could be offered to demonstrate that the linear actuator will meet the characteristics specified herein. b. Submit a sample of existing manufacturing, inspection and test, and acceptance plans to control this type of work, and list any current International Standards Organization (ISO) certifications or equivalent. c. Describe whether the linear actuators that NASA is seeking to procure has been, in whole or in part, qualified for space flight and if so, describe the qualification program including environments used (e.g., against a MIL spec. or other). 4. Linear Actuator Mechanical Mount approach a. Submit or provide a description of the various mounting schemes offered for the linear actuator. 5. Costs a. If quoting an actuator that has undergone a flight qualification for a similar application (or has the capability to undergo one as it is currently designed), please provide costs as a purchase option. b. If quoting an actuator that is commercially available, please provide Off-the-Shelf procurement costs as a purchase option. 6. Delivery a. Provide an estimated delivery timeframe including early partial or full delivery of the quoted motor and actuator(s). b. Address major risks to meeting the delivery and how can they be overcome. Limit your responses to 8 pages or less not including diagrams, pictures, or figures. Existing documents that describe suitable existing products or proposed products are acceptable as Attachments to your response; please limit the total attachment volume to less than 25 pages. Please provide your contact information so we can contact you. Response requested by 4:30 p.m. EST on August 26, 2022 (or as soon as possible).
