3 Softener & Dealkalizer Replacement 6/12/2022 Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System 500 Highway 89 N Prescott, AZ 86313 CONTENTS: Background Project Objectives Statement of Work Requirements Special Technical Requirements Attachments BACKGROUND The outdated water softener and dealkalizers serving the boilers in the boiler plant and have very little life and will soon fail on the campus of the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System- Prescott AZ Campus. The they fail, we are unable to manage the water serving the boilers, which will cause issues with maintaining the boilers and steam to the entire campus. PROJECT OBJECTIVES: Replacement of the existing water softener and dealkalizer at the boiler plant with an expected peak flow rate of 10 pgm with a daily water usage of 6,500 gpd. Raw water quality is 7gpg water hardness and 6 GPG total alkalinity. STATEMENT OF WORK/REQUIREMENTS: Contractor to provide all labor, materials, tools, supervision and equipment to make the repairs noted below: Water Softener System (See Attachment 1, water softener on left) Marlo Incorporated MAT-60M-1-1/2 Twin Alternating Softener System (C230AG0000D0) Qty (2) 13"" Diameter x 54"" FRP Pressure Vessels Non-Code Pressure Vessels, 150 psig Rating 2 ft³ Softening Resin Per Vessel (60,000 grains Capacity Per Vessel) 1.5"" Fleck Model 9500 Top-Mounted Control Valves for Automatic Operation (See Attachments 2-4) Pentair 'SXT' digital display electronic timer 120/24 VAC, 60 Hz Electrical Power Rating Alternating Flow Control Configuration for Continuous Treated Water Supply Qty (1) Fleck Noryl Inline Turbine-Type Flow Sensor(s) for Volume Initiated Regeneration Cycle Qty (1) 18"" x 40"" Polyethylene Brine Storage Tank Assembly with Salt Shelf and Safety Overflow Valve Water Hardness Testing Kit Dealkalizer System (See Attachment 1Dealkalizer on right) Marlow Incorporated MATD 50-1-1/2 Twin Alternating Dealkalizer System (C340AE0000G0) Qty (2) 18"" Diameter x 65"" FRP Pressure Vessels Non-Code Pressure Vessels, 150 psig Rating 5 ft³ Dealkalizing Resin Per Vessel (50,000 grains Capacity Per Vessel) Washed Gravel Sub-Fill for Media Support 1.5"" Fleck Model 9500 Top-Mounted Control Valves for Automatic Operation (See Attachments 2-4) Pentair 'XT' digital display electronic timer 120/24 VAC, 60 Hz Electrical Power Rating Alternating Flow Control Configuration for Continuous Treated Water Supply Qty (1) Fleck Noryl Inline Turbine-Type Flow Sensor(s) for Volume Initiated Regeneration Cycle Qty (1) 18"" x 40"" Polyethylene Brine Storage Tank Assembly with Salt Shelf and Safety Overflow Valve Caustic Feed System (Controller, Pump, & Stand) Installation and Startup per manufactures requires Piping retrofit to copper: .1.c.1. 1 ½ pipe, 15 feet .1.c.2 1 pipe, 15 feet .1.c.3. ½ pipe, 5 feet .1.c.4. Assorted copper valves and connectors D. SPECIAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Drawing Files: N/A Meeting Minutes: If any meeting for this project is necessary, COR will maintain or produce meeting minutes. VA Standards: Contractor could access VA s technical library on the internet at http//www.cfm.va.gov/til/ : if they need to know more about VA Standards Codes: The following codes and criteria shall be utilized to the extent applicable. The contractor should have personal copies of these documents for use during the project. The contractor shall make the COR aware of any conflicts between these documents and VA Handbooks, as applicable to this project, and obtain a decision. Not all below will be applicable to this project but, it NFPA 10 Portable Fire Extinguishers NFPA 13 Installation of Sprinkler Systems NFPA 70 National Electric Codes NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 90A Installation of Air conditioning and Ventilation Systems NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities NFPA 101 Life Safety Code NFPA 241 Construction, Alterations, and Demolition Operations ICC International Building Code IAMPO International Plumbing Code ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook UL Fire Resistance Directory OSHA Standards for General and Construction Industry EPA Upon completion of installation, contractor shall provide necessary operator training on the new water softener and dealkalizer system, and any associated O & M documents Disposal of any or all hazardous material produced during this replacement project shall be the responsibility of the contractor. Time requirement to complete the project: as these buildings serve employee work areas, contractor shall make any attempt to complete the project within a minimum possible time and contractor shall ensure they have all materials to complete the project without any delay Attachment 1 Attachment 2 Attachment 3 Attachment 4
