- WORK ITEM 1: �Deck Coverings (Interior Carpet) Renew 1.� SCOPE 1.1� Intent.� This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to renew carpeting in rooms/areas as listed in table 1. 1.2� Government-furnished property.�� None. Not applicable. 3.1.3� Protective measures.� The Contractor shall furnish and install all protective coverings to seal off and protect all non-affected vessel's components, equipment, and spaces near the work area against contamination during the performance of work.� Upon completion of work, the Contractor shall remove all installed protective measures, inspect for the presence of contamination, and return all contaminated equipment, components, and spaces to original condition of cleanliness. 3.1.4� Interferences.� The Contractor shall handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences). 3.1.5� Work Location(s).� The concerned work area(s) is as listed in Table 1. See the Coast Guard Drawings above for guidance and details. 3.1.6 Materials. The Contractor shall provide any new components, parts, materials, and paints with the same color, comparable and matching material properties as the existing components/parts. Use references in section 1, 2 and SFLC Std Specs 6310 and 6341 for guidance, required materials, and details. 3.2.2� Hazardous material disclosure. The Contractor shall be aware of the following hazardous conditions: WARNING Treat asbestos as friable during removal. Asbestos in excess of 1% is present in the existing State Room deck preservation. Lead is present at or in excess of 0.009 percent by weight (0.018 mg/cm2, or 90 ppm), in the existing primer coat(s) for the State Room coating system. 3.3 Inspection. In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, the Contractor shall inspect of all exposed deck areas in Table 1 after removing/cleaning deck covering and prior to prepping deck surfaces. Submit a CFR. 3.4 Deck covering installation (Retain underlayment). The Contractor shall perform all tasks specified in SFLC Std Spec 6341 and follow manufacturers� installation instructions, to install a new deck covering system, in kind, in the locations listed in Table 1. 3.4.1 Removal. The Contractor shall remove and prep all existing deck covering systems in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341 paragraph 3.2.2. Disposal shall be in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations. 3.4.2 Bonding. The Contractor shall apply the boding coat (coming with underlayment kit) on the exposed surfaces of underlayment and feathered deck covering layers and let them dry in accordance with manufacturers� installation instruction/guideline. 3.4.3 Underlayment. The Contractor shall retain and repair existing underlayment from top deck covering removal. Fill in underlayment around damaged areas up to existing underlayments and flush with installed deck fittings. And, sand exposed underlayment to provide smooth surface free of irregularities. 3.4.4 Carpet. The Contractor shall apply Carpet over underlayment in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341, Appendix E and manufacturers� installation instruction/guideline. 3.5 Coving. The Contractor shall install coving around entire perimeter of the areas in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341. Unless otherwise specified, apply caulking compound at other corners. 3.6 Touch-up preservation, general. The Contractor shall prepare and coat all new and disturbed exterior and interior surfaces, as applicable, to match existing adjacent surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, paragraph 3.1.13 (Touch-ups and minor coating repairs). 4.� NOTES This section is not applicable to this work item
