Description
Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) supports the Nanoscale Science Research Center Recapitalization project (NSRC-Recap) which is adding new and updated capabilities to the Department of Energys nanoscience infrastructure. As part of this work, BSA is potentially seeking to purchase an aberration corrected multimodal (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM) with analytical capabilities that will serve as a platform for in situ capabilities to be located at the Molecular Foundry (Foundry) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The microscope shall be designed to provide an optimum combination of capabilities for high-resolution imaging, electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to also facilitate optical excitation and/or collection leveraging third-party sample holders. This microscope is required to provide <350 meV energy resolution with an atomic-sized probe and accelerating voltages ranging from 60-200kV, with 300kV as an option. High quantum efficiency detectors for imaging, diffraction, and EELS applications are required. The system must also be compatible with 3rd-party commercial sample holders capable of routing visible light into and out from the sample area. This new system will enable the determination of physical and chemical properties of various materials at high spatial and high energy resolution, which are of importance to discoveries in materials science. BSA invites you to participate in accordance with the RFI letter and all supporting attachments. This requirement has been posted on the SAM.gov website under solicitation RFI-417602. The response due date is August 12, 2022 at 4:30PM. Any questions concerning this RFI must be addressed via email to the attention of Nick DAbbraccio (ndabbracc@bnl.gov).
