- Description
- Fermi National Accelerator Lab (FNAL) is in the process of constructing a new accelerator, PIP-II [1]. This 800 foot long superconducting linear accelerator is already under construction, and will come online in 2029. PIP-II includes a dedicated cryogenic plant providing liquid and gaseous helium to components of the accelerator. The piping system which delivers the helium from the cryoplant to the accelerator is known as the Cryogenic Distribution System (CDS). This Request For Information (RFI) is intended to solicit information from potential vendors for the installation of the CDS within the PIP-II footprint. The CDS has four major components, shown in Figure 2, within the scope of this RFI: The Distribution Valve Box (DVB) is located within the cryoplant building and serves as the interface between the cryoplant and the CDS. The Intermediate Transferline (ITL) runs from the cryoplant building to the accelerator tunnel. This includes both a vacuum-insulated multi-circuit cold transferline and several single-wall warm piping runs. The Tunnel Transferline (TTL) is the piping in the accelerators underground tunnel and includes interfaces for the accelerator components. This includes a vacuum-insulated multi-circuit cold transfer line with 26 modules (25 Bayonet Cans + 1 Turnaround Can) and several single-wall warm piping runs. The warm gas pipe headers within CDS scope, include primarily helium gas piping as well as short sections or air, water, and nitrogen piping. The final connections between the TTL and the accelerator components (known as cryomodules) are accomplished with removable U-tubes. Cryomodules and U-tubes are outside the scope of this RFI.
