- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) in Hyattsville, MD, intends to award a sole source firm fixed price contract to the University of Texas Austin for the Development of a flexible framework for epidemic alerting systems. The University of Texas Austin is made up of an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and public health experts who work to build practical tools to track and mitigate emerging viral threats, including COVID-19. This group developed a model that predicted COVID-19 transmission and hospitalizations based on COVID-19 hospital admissions and cell phone mobility data. This model was uniquely incorporated into a public dashboard providing daily healthcare forecasts that raised public awareness, guided the citys staged alert system to prevent unmanageable ICU surges, and triggered the launch of an alternative care site to accommodate hospital overflow. This provided the group an unparalleled perspective on the generation of staged alerting systems and an evaluation of its performance to prevent future healthcare surges, making them uniquely qualified for this work. Subsequently, the University have the staffing who are uniquely qualified to continue the work they started under other CDC requirements. Thus, demonstrating a high level of experience and staff that are familiar with the specified data. The NAICS code for this action is 541990 This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and FAR Part 12, Commercial Items.
