- Description
- PLEASE REFER TO SOW FOR A DETAILED DESCRIPTION 1. GENERAL 1.1 Overview: Provide all Plant, Labor, Materials, Licenses, Permits, Equipment, Supervision and Management to complete the design and construction services associated with the Building 221 (Teen CDC) sprinkler upgrade. Any and all exceptions shall be in writing and labeled as such. Design services shall include site evaluations, design concept meetings and concept drawing reviews, preparation of construction specifications, construction drawings, and requests for information and construction cost estimates. Area specific details are included on the provided building drawing. Dimensions and depictions on drawing are to be field verified by potential bidders as Tobyhanna Army Depot is not responsible for accuracy of provided drawings. The sprinkler system will be designed in conformance with the latest edition of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-600-01, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13 and American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) 1015. All installed equipment shall be labeled by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or another U.S. recognized testing agency. The equipment will be acceptance tested per UFC. The fire suppression system shall be Water-Based Dry-Piped throughout the entire structure. The building consists of a basement, living quarters, and attic (three (3) floors). A full analysis shall be conducted to determine the sprinkler main is adequately sized to allow the sprinkler system to provide full guaranteed coverage throughout the building. Mechanical rooms, electrical rooms and fire sprinkler riser rooms shall be classified as HC-2. A hydrant flow test will be required. UFC requires schedule 40 steel pipe, 12 pounds per square inch (psi) loss through the back flow and 500 Gallons per minute (GPM) hose stream, which all increase the overall system hydraulic demand. 1.2 Site Visit: In order to gain an understanding of the Bldg. 221 sprinkler project, we suggest that potential bidders attend a scheduled site visit. 1.3 Key Elements: It is the Contractors responsibility to relocate any and all items that may interfere with the construction of the new sprinkler system. Example; conduits, gas piping. 2. DEMOLITION 2.1 Demolition shall consist of: - Demolition of existing dry piped sprinkler system in its entirety throughout the building (all three (3) floors. - Demolition of existing service riser piping beginning at the first flanged fitting above finished floor in riser room. - Demolition of exterior fire department connections and drains. 2 - Demolition of all existing fire pipe system hangers and supports. 2.2 Construction debris is the responsibility of the Contractor and shall be disposed of off-site. Compliance with TYAD environmental division disposal and tracking/recordkeeping standards is mandatory. 3. NEW SPRINKLER SYSTEM 3.1 Installation of the new dry-piped sprinkler system shall consist of: - Installation of new wet pipe sprinkler system in all of Bldg. 221. - Installation of new fire department connections and drains at each riser location. - Installation of double check valve backflow prevention device including new OS&Y valves, or Government approved equal, at each riser location. - Installation of all applicable tampers, flow switches, alarms and any and all devices needed for the correct operation of sprinkler system. All devices shall be ran to and tied into (programmed) to the alarm panel located in foyer on south side of building (main entrance). - Installation of other locations noted during site investigations and included in Contractor design with the intention of providing full sprinkler coverage for Bldg. 221 - Installation of all conduit, disconnects, lighting, wiring, piping, alarms and other associated work necessary for a complete and usable sprinkler system. All conduit shall be brought back to the nearest available panel box. - - All sprinkler piping shall be painted Red.
