Description
SERVICES SCOPE OF WORK Replace 125 VDC batteries and charger systems for Buildings 168 & 46 POP: Work must be completed 15 days after contract award. GENERAL PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK Provide materials to replace & install 125 VDC batteries bank and 208 VAC charger systems. Vendor will plan to remove the existing systems. VA shall assist vendor with the installations. Vendor shall check system out with the VA Staff upon startup. Work can be normal business hours. Cutover may require off hours work. Vendor shall perform lock & tagout process with VA Staff. System for Building 168 Medium Voltage switchgear requires backup power for it to work correctly. The switchgear is the main power for the entire Campus. The existing 168 system is nickel cadmium, 46 blocks, 2 cells per block. Existing charger input is 208 voltage, single phase, 20amp two pole breaker. Require new battery frame support. System for Building 46 (Metal clad enclosure in the south courtyard) Medium Voltage switchgear requires backup power for it to work correctly. The switchgear is the main power for buildings 1, 3, 4, 42, 12, boiler plant and computer rooms. The existing 46 system is nickel cadmium, 28 blocks, 2 cells per block. Each cell is a SAFT-NIFE nickel cadmium battery Type SBH25-2, IEC Standard KH25P, Code 9508. Existing charger input is 208 voltage, single phase, 20amp two pole breaker. Charger is ALCAD model AT10-130-006-0112000, DC output 130-volts. Require new battery frame support. See specification 261313 for specification requirements. Submittals are required for review and acceptance. JUSTIFICATION Existing battery bank and system charger has been in place from 1996.. Existing battery cells have numerous failed cells Existing battery charger display no longer work and system is un-reliable in building 168. The DC Power supply from the battery bank is critical for the main utility power switch gear to operate correctly. In the event of an outage, it will be extremely dangerous to reset the system and the voltage on the gear is 23,000 volts from the street which powers the whole campus. PROPOSED SCHEDULE:  Work hours for this project are:    7:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday.  Cutover to the new system may require off hours coordination.
