- Description
- NSN(s):1377015900158ES,1377014549864ES NOUN: FLU-9B/P Automatic Inflation Device (DODIC BY81) DESCRIPTION: The FLU-9B/P Automatic Inflation Device, P/N 1812-181-01, NSN 1377-01-454-9864-BY81 (alt.: P/N 01-0-04-200-0AA, NSN 1377-01-590-0158-BY81), is used to automatically inflate LPU-9B/P life preservers upon immersion in freshwater or saltwater after crewmember ejection from an aircraft. The device consists of a body assembly and sensor housing. The body assembly contains a cartridge, piercing pin, cam lever, firing check port, spent cartridge indicator pin, packaging loop lanyard, lanyard assembly, and nylon release pin. A CO2 bottle is attached to the body assembly. The sensor housing contains an electronic circuit, a sensor pin, a sensor plug, two 6-V batteries, and a battery contact pin. ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTION: The device can be operated either manually or automatically. The primary method of operation is manual. When manually operated, the attached lanyard assembly is pulled and the cam lever rotates, forcing the piercing pin into the diaphragm of the CO2 cylinder and releasing the packaging loop from the nylon release pin. The secondary operating mode is automatic.
