- Description
- NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC)/Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) has released a version of the NAFTU (NASA Autonomous Flight Termination Unit) software package to industry through GSFCs Strategic Partnerships Office. All interested parties, including private companies and government entities, must participate in the application process to obtain the software. To apply, interested parties must apply for a copyright license as well as submit a formal request for the NAFTU software in order to obtain a software usage agreement. Non-U.S. companies are responsible for obtaining all required export license documentation prior to receiving the NAFTU software. NASA invites all eligible companies to obtain this version of NAFTU, which is now available. Update January 2022: NAFTU Version 2.2 is now available for release. Please follow the directions given under the Application Process to obtain NAFTU Version 2.2. Background On behalf of a government customer, GSFC/WFF is performing a compliance demonstration of NAFTU for a specific use case and configuration of the NAFTU software (Phase 1). This involves compliance to a tailored set of system requirements, testing, and independent verification and validation (IV&V). Earlier this year, IV&V review revealed several software design non-compliances, and as a result, the software has been modified to comply. Application Process U.S. companies: In order to obtain the software, interested companies and government entities must fill out a software request form for the software usage agreement and apply for a copyright license. NASA will process applications in the order they are received. Due to the sensitive nature of this software, a vetting process will take place once both the copyright license application and the accompanying software request form is received. Once the vetting process is complete, vetted companies will receive a software usage agreement and a copyright license. After the software usage agreement and the copyright license are signed by the vetted companies, the software will be distributed to each vetted company. To obtain the copyright license application and the software request form for the software usage agreement, please email GSFC-NAFTU@mail.nasa.gov. Please indicate in the email that this is a request for both the copyright license application and the software request form. NOTE: BOTH THE COPYRIGHT LICENSE AND SOFTWARE USAGE AGREEMENT ARE NECESSARY TO OBTAIN THE SOFTWARE, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE U.S. or NON-U.S. COMPANY. Non-U.S. companies: In addition to the copyright license and software usage agreement listed above, additional steps are needed to obtain the software, including applying for and obtaining an export license. Please e-mail GSFC-NAFTU@mail.nasa.gov for more information. Points of Contact If interested parties have questions about how to obtain the NAFTU software technology, including the software usage agreement and copyright license, please contact GSFC-NAFTU@mail.nasa.gov.
